Create Your Own Stroke of Brilliance

If you're looking for a stylish, fun way to bring your room to life without spending a lot, get twisting!  Follow our simple instructions and create your own Stroke of brilliance!

Paint
Base Coat: AquaPearl #401
Glaze Mixture: AquaVelvet #426
Tools
2-3 nylon body sponges, 9-inch roller and tray, 2-inch sash brush, & disposable latex gloves

 6 Easy Steps to Twisting

  1. Paint the walls with AquaPearl and allow to dry overnight.  If required, walls can be primed with Fresh Start prior to base coat.

  2. Mix glaze - 6 parts AquaGlaze, 1 part AquaVelvet.  Pour into the paint tray.  AquaGlaze is available in 3.79L, 2L, and 1L containers which are short-filled to accommodate the addition of tinted paint.

  3. Working in sections, roll the glaze mixture onto the wall, starting a corner and covering an area approximately 4 feet across, floor to ceiling.

  4. Using a nylon body sponge, 'pounce' the surface where the glaze has been applied, giving each motion a slight 'twist' into the glaze.  Be sure to work to just within 5 inches of the edge, called a wet edge, helps to prevent lap-lines from occurring.

  5. Roll out the next 4 foot section.  Back roll into the wet edge left in the last glaze section.  Proceed with 'twisting' to complete the walls.  Wipe off your nylon sponge with a spare rag from time to time, to ensure a consistent look from start to finish.  Use a 2 inch sash brush to apply paint mixture into corners and along baseboards/mouldings, as required (be careful not to move ahead of 'twisting' process).

  6. Once you have completed your paint project allow 24 hours for the walls to dry before putting your room back together, i.e. pushing any furniture against the walls, hanging pictures, etc.

Helpful Hints

  1. Always choose a paint colour for the glaze mixture 2 shades darker than the colour you want as your final result.  The AquaGlaze will dilute it and 'lighten' it to the colour you want.

  2. The nylon sponge will rinse out beautifully when you are finished the project, but be sure to use a dry sponge for the entire process to ensure a consistent finish.

  3. Do a 'sample board" before you get started (we suggest a piece of drywall or masonrite roughly 2 feet by 2 feet).  This will give you a 'feel' for the  technique and will allow you to test your colour selection and glaze mixture before you apply it to a wall.
